DISCA Board of Directors Welcomes New Executive Director

HILLSBOROUGH, March 29, 2019 – The Drywall & Interior Systems Contractors Association (DISCA) Board of Directors proudly welcome new Executive Director, William Umbach, to the association. Mr. Umbach has been serving as the Interim Executive Director since December 2018, after Rich Alampi retired. The Board of Directors conducted a search for a new executive director and vetted several candidates for the position.

Mr. Umbach stated, “DISCA has been a part of my life for many years and I’ve established many longtime relationships. I am excited for the opportunity to serve DISCA in a new capacity and look forward to working with the Board to grow and strengthen our Association. Over the past year, the Board has taken steps to rebrand the Association; enhance member benefits, encourage member engagement, and increase promotional support of union construction. I am anxious to keep this momentum going as Executive Director.” Bill has been a member of DISCA since 1976 when he began his career in the building materials industry.  Since then, he has served on the Board of Directors for the Drywall and Interior Systems Contractors Association of New Jersey for over 27 years. He chaired numerous committees during his tenure and served as Treasurer and Vice President, before becoming the first Associate Member to be elected President in 2005-2006.   “DISCA has many opportunities for growth right now, and we need a leader who understands the association and industry,” stated DISCA president, Jessica Sheppard.  “Bill is the right person to guide DISCA and nurture important relationships.”

In 1975, Mr. Umbach received a BS in Business from Lehigh University with a major in both Marketing and Management.  The following year, he started working for US Gypsum Company as a field sales representative in New Jersey.  He held various positions during his career at USG, including Product Manager, Sales Manager, and Price & Policy Manger.  In 1985, Umbach moved to distribution and joined the Strober Organization as General Manager of SGS Building Supply.  Bill was later promoted to the positions of Vice President of Strober New Jersey Building Supply and Executive Vice President of the Strober-Haddonfield Group.  Following the acquisition of Lanoga and the beginning of ProBuild, he was promoted to Senior Vice President for the MidAtlantic area and ascended to Senior Vice President Market Development for the Northeast Region.  With his extensive experience in the Gypsum line of business, Bill was asked to run the newly created Specialty Distribution Region with P&L responsibility for 28 Gypsum Specialty Distribution Centers nationwide.  Upon retirement, Bill has dedicated his time to serve on DISCA board and enjoy his favorite hobbies—golf, skiing and swimming.
